# Deep Thinking

> Enable extended reasoning for complex, nuanced AI conversations.

Deep Thinking gives your AI persona additional reasoning time to produce more thoughtful, accurate, and nuanced responses. This is especially useful for technical interviews, complex problem-solving, and scenarios that require careful analysis.

## How it works

When Deep Thinking is enabled, the AI takes a moment to reason through its response before speaking. This produces:

* **More accurate technical answers** -- Better code review, system design discussions, and analytical reasoning
* **More nuanced evaluation** -- Deeper understanding of participant responses for more precise scoring
* **Better follow-up questions** -- The AI identifies gaps and inconsistencies more effectively

## Enabling Deep Thinking

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open your scenario">
    Navigate to the scenario you want to configure.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Go to Settings">
    Click the **Settings** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enable Deep Thinking">
    Toggle on **Deep Thinking** under capabilities.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Deep Thinking adds a brief pause (1-3 seconds) before the AI responds. For fast-paced conversational scenarios like sales calls, you may prefer to leave it off for a more natural flow.
</Note>

## Mid-turn tuning

Beyond the on/off toggle, you can tune how much reasoning happens *per turn* from the Deep Think dialog on the scenario page:

* **Reasoning budget** — cap how long the AI is allowed to think before it must speak. Shorter for fast-paced calls; longer for high-stakes analysis.
* **Trigger** — always reason, or only when the AI's own confidence in the next response falls below a threshold.
* **Visible thinking (preview)** — expose a compressed rationale to the meeting host so you can see *why* the AI answered the way it did after the fact.

The dialog lives on the scenario editor's Capabilities row next to the Deep Thinking toggle.

## Trade-offs

| With Deep Thinking | Without Deep Thinking |
| -------------------------------- | -------------------------------------- |
| More accurate, nuanced responses | Faster, more conversational flow |
| Better at complex reasoning | Better for casual, rapid-fire dialogue |
| Slightly longer response time    | Near-instant responses                 |
| Higher quality goal scoring | Standard goal scoring |
